Starting Out: Website vs Blog vs Portfolio

When it comes to showcasing your work online, there are various options to choose from. Each platform has it's pros and cons; How do you know which one is right for you? Well?? For a start let's talk about the basics...

What is a Website?

A website is a collection of web pages that are typically used to promote a business, organization, or individual. Websites can be

StaticStatic means all pages are single load; script free and strictly rigid by design; beneficial for things like "About Me" areas or information pages
or
DynamicThis means extensively built websites with smart features that can achieve some task or goal; such as a contact me/ email form or Online store system.
with static websites displaying the same content to all visitors and dynamic websites displaying content that is tailored to each visitor. Websites are great for providing information about You, Your content and services pretty much for free or like the cost of a fancy premium drink once a month.

What is a Blog?

A blog is a type of website that is regularly updated with new content with mixed media; a News Article, or a Trip to Paris, or an Instructive Step by Step with a video or helpful aids. They are a great way to engage with your audience and establish yourself in your specific niche, and works wonders boosting your visibility!

What is a Portfolio?

A portfolio is essentially a selection of your work, typically organized in a visually appealing way to showcase your skills and accomplishments. Don't be fooled; a splash screen without text can be the impact that could persuade someone in hiring You, and There's no better way than taking the leap to a portfolio gallery style website that let people feel like they've just walked into a very specialized exhibition dedicated to subjectively Your best Art, Photograph and Music or Videos.

Choose Your Fighter

Now to pitch them out together and find a winner; as the one probably building it!
First You should identify What it is You are going to be posting/uploading. With 0 context and for the new people starting the adventure a website would be the starting line! Just for general understanding, You don't have to instantly choose right away!
The next thing to consider is Time; Do You have the time to update or change something or constantly mess around inside a website builder? Is it perhaps something that's
Time-CriticalSomething that needed doing like.. 15 minutes ago..
Are you writing something or providing a service?
If a. You are Writing something;
Then blogging wins hands down, WordPress, Blogger, write.as and Squarespace are all great choices— just be sure it's within your comfort zone and techy-nerd level of expertise (Wordpress is a b*tch!).
If b. You're curating your own content or offering a service;
Then essentially you can use pretty much any website builder like canva, carrd,
WixWe don't stan AI supporting companies here;
, or Weebly. Think about what you want to do (or not do) and consider the Features You're look for..
Personally - I use carrd with premium features to match up my portfolio website with this one; rather well I might add all things considered nobody would tell they sit on seperate applications and in the grand scheme of things; I like to think works in my favour.

TLDR

Depending on Who you are and What; for Authoring use a Blog.. Photography, Art - use Cara, Behance, Pixpa etc. Or a Web Builder with Good Storage options (carrd, Squarespace, Fourthwall) and features that show You at your best; for the Music/Dance creators There's always Patreon + Vimeo/YouTube combo, Bandcamp and Soundcloud for that added exposure..Explore some platforms, try things out, check out some templates and what features You are looking for the most to make a nice home here on the wibbly wobbly web.
