Why it's important to take a break from Art
Hello art makers, digital doodlers and merch makers...
Let's talk about Breaks and Why They're important to take..
Artists are known for their dedication and passion for their craft. I myself can spend hours on end perfecting a piece, losing myself in the creative process, scrapping, restarting and scrapping again in the pursuit of perfection (Yes I'm a perfectionist... it's terrible). However, even for me... even the smallest breaks are crucial... now the Why..
Prevents Burnout.
Constantly pushing yourself to draw daily, persistently work on a particular piece of artwork can lead to burnout. Taking a break allows your mind and body to rest, restoring that much needed motivation, inspiration and energy. It's like giving your brain a much-needed reboot.
Gain Fresh Perspective.
Stepping away from your art for a while can give you a fresh perspective when You come back to it. You may notice things You didn't see before or come up with new ideas that You wouldn't have thought of otherwise, Sometimes just walking away for 5 minutes; speaking about it will gain you that much wanted reframe You didn't think You'd need..
Prevents Overworking.
Yup! Even I'm guilty of this (I hate it).. I'm literally outing myself on this as someone who can work 60 hours and forget to clock-watch; Artists can easily fall into the trap of this work-til-you-can't business leading to physical and mental exhaustion without taking the appropriate breaks...
Trust me when I say this - Your art will suffer more than You will and If you don't want that; then take a break.
Buff Your Flow.
When you take a break from art, you give your brain the opportunity to recharge. This can lead to a surge in creativity, That good rest you get when you return to your work. Will utterly surprise You how much more you achieve and gain a buff in quality level and believe it or not; your speed and dexterity..
It's Great for Mental Health.
In the very rare few cases taking a break means losing an escape... but there are other ways to unwind; and Sometimes it's for the better.. Taking a break from art doesn't mean you're giving up on your passion. It's about taking care of yourself so that you can continue to create amazing work in the long run. So, the next time you feel overwhelmed or stuck with art block or floored level of motivation, don't be afraid to step back and take a breather. Your art will thank you for it and so will your clients for the improved detail in that leather jacket, or that one piece of jewellery around their OC/ Commissioned work..
